56 Leonard Street, New York

The latest Schindler-equipped extravagantly iconic high-rise in Lower Manhattan.

With the addition of 56 Leonard Street, New York has remained true to its tradition of being the symbol of a modern metropolis with an impressive skyline. Commonly known as the “Jenga Tower”, the 250-meter-high, 60-story iconic high-rise building in the Tribeca district of Manhattan is the work of the Swiss architect office, Herzog & de Meuron.

Breathtaking architectural design

Why Jenga Tower? Jenga is a game of blocks that players use to build a tower as high as possible. And this is what the high-rise building looks like: a collection of glass cubes that, especially in the upper part of the tower, appear randomly offset.

56 Leonard is already considered one of the ten architecturally most outstanding skyscrapers in New York and is mentioned in the same breath as the Chrysler Building, Flatiron Tower and Hearst Tower. Construction of the 60-storey reinforced concrete glass building began in 2008, was stopped due to financial problems and was finally completed between 2012 and 2016.

Smart people traffic with Schindler

The high-rise is a purely residential building with 145 spacious two to five bedrooms apartments. In the upper part of the building there are ten luxurious Penthouses. On the ninth and tenth floors there is also an indoor/outdoor theater, a 23-meter-long swimming pool and a conference center.
Schindler supplied ten elevators, equipped with the transit management system “The PORT Technology” to ensure smart traffic within the building.
