We make a positive contribution to communities through our targeted Responsibility initiatives.
With youth unemployment being a global challenge, we are proud to give young people the opportunity to take their first step into the world of work and develop the skills and experience they need to move forward in their careers. Within the Group, apprenticeships help prepare future generations of service technicians and fitters.
At the end of 2022 over 4,000 students were engaged in vocational education and training programs.
We have started to harmonize the skills and experience apprentices gain at Schindler on a global level aiming to create a Group standard for apprentice fitters and service technicians. The standard will provide guidance on the curriculum, program set-up and administration.
By giving young people the opportunity to develop professional skills and experience, we help them build the foundations of their careers. In return, they help us to focus on the future and the next generation.

A great example of how our products can support inclusive urban development comes from Medellín, Colombia. A series of outdoor escalators installed on a hillside in the city have transformed a strenuous uphill journey into a short escalator ride. This has improved the daily commute of 12,000 community residents who previously faced a long walk up and down the hill every day.
