Sustainable procurement Partnering across our global supply chain to decarbonize, protect people, and build resilience.
We are committed to increase sustainability and environmental awareness in our supply chain while maintaining high standards of safety & quality.
A global supply chain
Schindler collaborates with a global network of suppliers to reduce emissions, promote respect for human rights, and advance product quality and safety across the value chain. Our climate ambition is net zero by 2040 (scopes 1-3), with near-term 2030 targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Progress and methodology are disclosed each year in our Nonfinancial Report.
Our approach
We integrate sustainability criteria into sourcing while keeping quality, safety, and business continuity at the core. Our Responsible Sourcing Policy sets global minimum standards for every supplier—covering environment (including GHG (Greenhouse Gas) accounting), human rights and working conditions, ethics and fair competition, sanctions & export control, data protection, and quality management. These requirements apply worldwide and must be applied to sub-suppliers.
Why it matters
Most of our overall climate impact lies in Scope 3 - especially in the use of sold products and purchased goods & services - so supplier collaboration is essential to our strategy. See the latest Nonfinancial Report for our current Scope 3 profile and pathway.
What we expect from suppliers
Climate & environment
Measure and report GHG emissions according to the GHG Protocol; set reduction targets and implement reduction plans (e.g., energy efficiency, renewable electricity, waste minimization; implement ISO 14001 where relevant).
Manage emissions and pollutants; obtain and maintain all required environmental permits.
Responsible minerals
Support due diligence and disclosures for minerals/metals from conflict-affected and high-risk areas (e.g., EU 2017/821, Swiss DDTrO, U.S. DoddFrank §1502).
Ethics & integrity
Zero tolerance for bribery and corruption; avoid conflicts of interest; compete fairly.
Trade, data & IP
Comply with trade sanctions and export control laws; secure personal data in line with GDPR/Swiss DPA/CCPA/LGPD; protect confidential information and intellectual property.
Human rights & working conditions
No child or forced labor; fair employment practices and working hours; safe and healthy workplaces guided by ISO 45001 principles; nondiscrimination and harassment free environments; respect for freedom of association where legally permitted.
Flow-down & transparency
Cascade these expectations to your own value chain; maintain accurate records; cooperate in assessments/audits; implement timely corrective actions.
How we work with the supply base
Supplier engagement
Schindler received an A (Supplier Engagement Leader) rating in CDP’s Supplier Engagement Assessment (SEA), published in April 2026. The SEA evaluates how companies govern and set targets, account for Scope 3 emissions, and engage their value chain on decarbonization.
Resilience & continuity
We evaluate climate, operational, and market risks and opportunities - including potential supplier site disruption and energy/material price exposure - and plan mitigation via supplier diversification, business continuity planning, and efficiency measures.
Decarbonization & data quality
We collaborate with key suppliers on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and standardized Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs) to identify hotspots and reduce embodied carbon across categories.
Innovation & materials
We are piloting low-emission materials (e.g., low-carbon emission steel in elevators) and scaling circular design, repair, and reuse to lower embodied carbon while maintaining performance.
Risk-based due diligence & ratings
We combine supplier self-assessments with independent evaluations (e.g., EcoVadis) and audits where appropriate, assessing environment, labor & human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.
Product stewardship & transparency
Hazardous substances are managed from the design stage (e.g., REACH/RoHS compliance and supplier declarations). We publish Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Health Product Declarations (HPDs) for key product lines to enable our customers to make informed decisions and obtain environmental building certifications (e.g. LEED, DGNB, and BREEAM).
