Gate of Science, Shanghai: A gateway to the future
Some cities never sleep. Others never stop growing – Shanghai is one of them.
The city continues to grow and expand at a breakneck pace, with skyscrapers spreading out beyond the city’s downtown. On the outskirts of the country’s financial center, in the New Pudong district of Shanghai, two super-tall towers are taking shape.
Once completed in 2024, the twin 320-meter-high towers, dubbed 'Gate of Science', will become the tallest twin towers in Shanghai. And one of them – the West Tower – will rely on our mobility solutions and proprietary Schindler PORT technology to run smoothly.
Why ‘Gate of Science’? The two towers lie at the center of the Lujiajui Zhanghjiang Science City project, slated to become a hub for biomedicine, artificial intelligence, and the internet of things.
Schindler will equip the West tower, housing prime office space, with its mobility solutions, including our Schindler PORT technology to optimize traffic flow in the building. An adjoining 160-meter-high building and a large high-end shopping mall will also be fitted with Schindler mobility solutions.
All in all, 86 Schindler elevators - including 6 double-deck elevators - and 36 escalators will be found throughout Shanghai’s high-tech park.
"As an innovation-driven company, we couldn’t be prouder to support this project and to continue to help shape the rapid urban development of China," says Peter Tang, Head of Schindler China.
