Schindler awarded Surrey Langley SkyTrain elevators and escalators contract in Canada
Schindler will provide a total of 20 elevators and 40 escalators across eight new stations as part of the Surrey Langley SkyTrain project – a large-scale expansion of Metro Vancouver’s transportation network in British Columbia.
The Surrey Langley SkyTrain project is a 16-kilometer extension of Metro Vancouver’s SkyTrain rapid transit system connecting some of the region’s fastest-growing cities. The project includes eight new stations and three new transit exchanges. It will improve regional transportation connections and provide a fast, frequent, and reliable transit service.
Schindler will deliver 20 high performance mid-rise elevators, and 40 escalators, specifically designed for public transport, to support the smooth movement of passengers and provide reliable access to the elevated platforms. All escalators are compliant with the American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) guidelines for transit systems, and all elevators and escalators will be digitally connected enabling constant monitoring via the local Technical Operation Center.
"This is an important project for the region, and we are proud that Schindler was selected to provide our elevators and escalators. We understand how important transit is to improve the lives of all those who live, work, play, and study in the area," says Vikén Martarian responsible for the Americas and Escalators on Schindler’s Group Executive Committee.
"Our partnership with South Fraser Station Partners, the contractor who will build the eight stations, is founded on trust, built by the reputation of our products, the dedication of our team, and a shared passion for delivering an excellent customer experience," says Lisa Konnry, President of Schindler Canada.
Surrey Langley SkyTrain construction is underway, and the current anticipated in-service date is late 2029.
